ANTICIPATED OPENING - Long term Substitute Guidance Counselor needed to provide those guidance and counseling services necessary to maintain the effective functioning of the auxiliary services in the nonpublic schools within the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 servicing area. Postion beginning January 16, 2025 and continuing for approximately 6 weeks. JOB GOAL: To provide guidance and counseling services necessary to support students’ needs and to maintain the effective functioning of the auxiliary services in the nonpublic schools. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Operates within the professional guidelines established by the American School Counselors Association (ASCA). 2. Preserves confidentiality in all services provided in accordance with Colonial Intermediate Unit 20’s Board policies and the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors. 3. Is familiar with school policies regarding academic standards and requirements and is sensitive to school philosophies, values, and religious affiliations. 4. Collaborates with, and serves as a resource for, parents, teachers, administrators, and other educational specialists within the requirements of FERPA and the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20’s Board policies regarding student development in the areas of academics, transitional planning, and social and emotional well-being. 5. Is responsible for actively participating with the Student Intervention Team, Student Assistance Program, and/or any other school-based programs as needed. 6. Is responsible for recommending a student to a community-based resource when it is determined to be in the student's best interest. 7. Provides support with the administration and/or interpretation of standardized testing. 8. Collects, analyzes, and interprets relevant data to drive decisions and to ensure effective service delivery. 9. Is responsible for recording and maintaining appropriate records on each student. 10. Is responsible for following policies and procedures established by the Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 and the Nonpublic School Services Department. 11. Provides academic, social, emotional, and post-secondary guidance and counseling to students in individual and/or group settings. 12. Provides an overview of guidance and counseling services to parents/guardians and other stakeholders on an as needed and/or requested basis. 13. Demonstrates the technology skills necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the school counselor position. 14. Functions as a member of the Colonial IU 20’s crisis response team.
15. Demonstrates knowledge of various counseling theories and stages of child and adolescent development.
OTHER DUTIES: 1. Promote a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, public and nonpublic schools 2. Demonstrate the willingness to voluntarily or when assigned, assist other employees with their work 3.
