5th Grade Camp - Big Springs
A male “Camp Instructor” position has been declared open in Provo School District. This position is for a four-week teaching period, camp set-up, and camp take-down.
Camp dates are June 5th - June 30th, 2023.
The wage is $1350.00 each week.
Applicants must be certified teachers.
All teachers will be expected to:
- Attend three PLC meetings and one planning meeting prior to the beginning of camp.
- Be at camp each week beginning at 7:30 a.m. Monday until about 1 p.m. Friday.
- Assist with camp set-up and camp take-down.
- Be responsible for small and large groups of children twenty-four hours a day.
- Teach a specific concept relating to the intermediate grades science curriculum.
- Teach arts and crafts classes.
- Lead students in sports and recreation activities.
- Plan and conduct campfire programs. This includes participation in skits.
- Help in serving meals.
- Help in the maintenance and operation of the camp in general.
- Assist children on a difficult hike to Lightening Peak. It is a 3.5-mile hike from camp to the top. 1,000 feet in elevation per mile.
Male Teacher-Specific Qualifications
- Must be able to work well with 5th-grade students.
- Must be able to work well with staff.
- Must be familiar with intermediate-grade science concepts.
- Must be able to teach effectively.
- Must be willing to help in a variety of situations.
- Must be able to effectively discipline students.
- Must be able to endure rustic conditions (sleeping in tents).
- Must enjoy children and the outdoors.
- Required to help set camp up prior to camp starting, generally towards the end of May depending on weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift heavy weights such as tents, logs, equipment, etc.
- Current CPR certification. We will arrange class prior to camp start.
