The job of Network Technician was established for the purpose of installing, securing, repairing, and maintaining district-wide network systems; providing technical assistance and training to system users; investigating and resolving network problems; assisting with the operation of network rooms; answering user inquiries in person, via telephone, or via work orders, concerning the use of the PCSD network devices and equipment. This job reports to the Director of Technology. Essential Functions -Assist in the administration of network systems and network infrastructure servers related to the district LAN/WAN, for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users. -Install, maintain, and troubleshoot network-cabling infrastructure, including copper and fiber connections. -Administer VOIP (Voice Over IP) systems for the purpose of facilitating telephony communications district wide. This includes installing systems and related telephony equipment, troubleshooting issues, working with digital and analog lines, and effectively communicating with school administration and service providers to ensure consistent access to the PCSD staff and the community. -Assist with overseeing the operation of network rooms (MDF and IDF locations) for the purpose of ensuring efficient operations of the PCSD data network. -Install and maintain network software on a variety of equipment (e.g. switches, wireless controller and access points, VOIP equipment, network infrastructure servers, etc.) for the purpose of upgrading and maintaining District LAN/WAN and telecommunication systems. -Participate in meetings, workshops and/or trainings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. -Prepare electronic and written materials (e.g. procedures, system level documentation, reports, memos, letters, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. -Research trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases. -Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, school site personnel) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support. -Support other technology sub departments for the purpose of providing direction and/or solving technical problems. Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and/or software applications within the Districts local and wide area networks, telephones and security systems (e.g. network infrastructure servers, routers, network protocols, etc.) for the purpose of resolving operational issues and restoring services. -Perform other related duties as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. |
