Job Title:
Dist Coord 8/Physical Security Technician

Job Description:

The job of Physical Security Technician (PST) is established for the purpose of ensuring the design, construction, repair and maintenance of all access control, intrusion systems, visitor management and video surveillance systems meets district expectations. PST completes work orders and requests, investigates requests and troubleshoots problems where appropriate, establishes priorities and coordinates with contractors, when required, to make necessary repairs. PST provides subject matter expertise related to systems and manages the work of outside contractors to make sure all work meets District requirements. PST may assist department coworkers with other assignments as directed by the supervisor or the director of technology.

Essential Functions

-Assist with the procurement, installation, and maintenance of access control system and video management system, as well as the integration of other safety and security subsystems, i.e. intrusion detection and visitor management. For the purpose of maintaining the safety of students and staff.

-Designs, installs and/or oversees the work of installing wiring through-out the District relating to the systems. Reviews plans for all access control, intrusion, video surveillance and life safety work related to new construction or remodels for the purpose of meeting District requirements.

-Responsible for scheduled maintenance, cleaning and minor repairs or adjustments to electronic devices, including but not limited to access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection devices. Keeps equipment updated and operational in accordance with District requirements.

-Primary point of contact for service requests on all security related systems. Responds to phone, email, voice mail, verbal and written work orders. Issue and track work orders and work closely with vendors to assure timely resolution of service issues for the purpose of resolving operational issues and restoring services.

-Supports security systems integration, mapping and software updates and helps train other personnel in the use of these systems for the purpose of ensuring efficient operations of the PCSD buildings.

-Assists on new projects in both existing areas and new construction helping with security assessments, vendor selection, technology upgrades, product selections, testing and inspection of work in progress for the purpose of being in compliance with standards.

-Attend project meetings pertaining to security integration and participate in problem solving and discussions of system and project related issues for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

-Make recommendations for security equipment and systems.

-Research methods, systems or materials for purchase of systems for the purpose of recommending procedures and/or purchases.

-Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, school site personnel) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support.

-Support other technology sub departments for the purpose of providing direction and/or solving technical problems. Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware and/or software applications within the Districts local and wide area networks, access and security systems (e.g. network infrastructure servers, switches, network protocols, etc.) for the purpose of resolving operational issues and restoring services.

-Oversees issuing, assigning access rights for access control cards or key fobs and door access schedules for the purpose of keeping buildings secure.

-Coordinates low voltage electrical work of contractors related to repair, renovation and maintenance activities of systems, including, intrusion detection systems and equipment, video surveillance systems and equipment and access control systems and equipment for the purpose of following industry standards and maintaining the safety and security of District property.

-Develops replacement cycles and obtains quotes for repair and/or installation of systems district wide. Defines options and estimates costs, sets priorities and schedules for replacement cycles for the purpose of keeping systems functioning and limiting downtime of safety systems.

-Instructs employees in the use of systems. Establishes and coordinates alarm codes and keeps a record of those having access to such codes.

-Maintains inventory of essential parts and equipment for the purpose of ensuring repairs and installation are completed in a timely manner.

-Perform other related duties as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
