Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: planning and managing projects; using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and administering personnel policies.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; directing other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. Elem Assistant Principal

Job Description

Provo City School District

The job of Elem Assistant Principal is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process, including Professional Learning Communities, with specific responsibility for directing assigned programs and services for the unique needs of elementary school aged students; providing information and serving as a resource to others; supervising assigned staff; coordinating school activities and addressing issues, situations and/or problems, such as discipline, attendance, and other responsive services, that arise on campus or with enrolled students, and representing the building principal at assigned meetings and in fulfilling other school or district responsibilities as assigned.

This job reports to Building 

Essential Functions

Assists principal to oversee standardized testing as required by district, state, and federal guidelines (e.g. grade level assessments, ELL, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance and identifying students academic progress and identifying student academic needs and appropriate levels of intervention.

Assists principal to manage school finances by following district, state, and federal procurement procedures and regulations for the purpose of providing fiscal responsibility and compliance.

Assists principal to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment by gathering information from multiple sources with additional input from variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents, teachers, administrators, educational support professionals, etc., etc.) for the purpose of assessing student and community needs.

Assists principal with the oversight of pre-service teaching experiences (e.g. practicum, student teaching, and intern teachers, etc.) for the purpose of supporting quality instructions, professional growth of pre- service staff, meeting the district's commitments to university partners.

Assists school principal to oversee and sport school programs and initiatives (e.g. Title 1, Title 3, PBIS, Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, etc.) for the purpose of ensure compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines and to ensure all students receive the appropriate levels of support as determined by evidence from student assessment data and other evidence.

Attends work regularly to fulfill duties specific to the assignment for the purpose of providing quality educational experiences and continuity for assigned students, parents, and the overall school community.

Chairs meetings (e.g. curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc.) for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district and/or state objectives.

Facilitates meetings, processes, etc. for the purpose of meeting curriculum guidelines and/or ensuring that state mandates are achieved.

Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.

Facilitates the development, communication implementation and evaluation of quality learning for the purpose of enhancing excellence, equality and equity for staff and students.

Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.

Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students for the purpose of assisting students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills.

 
Manages a variety of school administrative functions (e.g. student disciplinary policy, school schedule, assigned personnel, etc.) for the purpose of enforcing school, district, and state policy and maintaining safety and efficiency of school operations.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Prepares a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student activities, correspondence, audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.

Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback, and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
