Job Requirements: Master’s degree in School Counseling or related degree. Foreign equivalent degree accepted. Must be willing to apply for a Utah Professional Educator License with a school counselor (K-12) concentration. Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling sessions to students to address academic, social, and emotional concerns. Demonstrated ability to consult with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals about student concerns, prevention, and intervention strategies. Demonstrated ability to create, develop, and deliver presentations to students on academic, social, and/or emotional issues. Demonstrated ability to work with students directly in addressing a wide range of student behaviors. Demonstrated knowledge to implement a high-functioning counseling program in a high school setting. Must be able to demonstrate written and oral fluency in both Spanish and English in order to perform the duties listed above. Must be willing to submit to a background check. |

Job Duties: This position is for a High School Counselor. Provide academic and short-term comprehensive school counseling services to high schools (grades 9-12) in both Spanish and English, since there is a 40% Hispanic/Latinx student population at Provo High. The counseling services will include but are not limited to providing short-term individual and group counseling with students to address student concerns and behaviors, individual student academic planning and goal setting, exploring post-secondary education and career options, referrals for long term-support, advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings as well as to responding to crisis situations and providing immediate support and intervention as needed. Provide guidance and resources to students and families in both Spanish and English regarding college applications, scholarships, vocational training, comprehensive school guidance support, career exploration as well as any other relevant information regarding the student's academic standing and school information. Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other mental health professionals to support student success and address academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns using prevention and intervention strategies. Provide assistance and support to students in both Spanish and English during times of transition, critical change, or other situations impeding student success. This includes but is not limited to actively participating in SST, IEP, 504, meetings, etc., and analyzing data to identify students' needs. Develop and implement high-functioning counseling programs and workshops in both English and Spanish to promote student wellness, resilience, and academic success. Create, develop, and deliver presentations to students on academic, social, and/or emotional issues in both English and Spanish. Conduct brief suicidal risk assessments and, when appropriate, refer students to external resources, such as mental health services within the school and outside organizations. Develop a variety of bilingual special programs (e.g., career night, financial aid workshops, etc.) to assist students and families in the successful transition from high school to career, training, and/or continuing education. Supervise assigned programs (e.g., scholarships, peer counseling, special education, ESL, etc.) for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall curriculum objectives. Evaluate school counseling programs thoroughly, share insights with stakeholders in both English and Spanish and demonstrate the positive impact on students resulting from the counseling program implementation. |
