Requirements
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual and long-term fundraising strategy aligned with district priorities and approved Foundation goals, for the purpose of establishing a coordinated and sustainable approach to generating resources that support students, schools, and district priorities.

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals, businesses, foundations, alumni, community organizations, and philanthropic partners, for the purpose of expanding and strengthening the Foundation's network of financial and community support.

  • Maintain accurate systems for donor contacts, contributions, gift restrictions, acknowledgments, recognition, and follow-up; ensure donors are thanked promptly and appropriately, for the purpose of maintaining accurate records, honoring donor intent, supporting effective stewardship, and strengthening donor relationships.

  • Prepare letters of inquiry, grant requests, sponsorship proposals, presentations, and other fundraising materials for private foundations, businesses, and individuals, for the purpose of securing financial and in-kind resources to support Foundation and district priorities.

Foundation Board Leadership and Governance

  • Work collaboratively with the Foundation Board president, officers, members, and committees to advance the Foundation's mission, priorities, and annual goals, for the purpose of ensuring coordinated leadership and effective progress toward established Foundation objectives.

  • Prepare agendas, reports, presentations, and meeting materials; schedule and coordinate executive committee, full board, and other assigned meetings; and ensure timely follow-up, for the purpose of supporting effective Board governance, informed decision-making, and completion of Board actions.

  • Create a positive, productive board environment and engage members' expertise and community connections in fundraising, donor cultivation, outreach, and events, for the purpose of maximizing Board member participation and leveraging their skills and relationships to advance the Foundation's work.

  • Keep Board members informed about district initiatives, Foundation performance, student needs, funded programs, and opportunities to serve as ambassadors for the district and Foundation, for the purpose of equipping Board members to make informed decisions and effectively represent and support the Foundation in the community.

  • Support the identification, recruitment, orientation, and engagement of Board and committee members who bring relevant expertise, community connections, and commitment to Provo schools, for the purpose of maintaining an effective and engaged leadership structure capable of advancing the Foundation's mission.

  • Coordinate with committee chairs, including finance and investment, grants, fundraising, planned giving, events, communications, audit, and other committees established by the Board, for the purpose of ensuring committee work is organized, aligned, and effectively supports Foundation priorities.

District Coordination and Program Impact

  • Meet regularly with the Superintendent and designated district leaders to understand district, school, program, educator, and student needs, for the purpose of ensuring Foundation priorities and activities are informed by and responsive to current district needs.

  • Help establish Foundation priorities that support the district's strategic plan, complement public funding, and provide opportunities students might not otherwise receive, for the purpose of directing Foundation resources toward high-impact needs and opportunities that advance student success.

  • Coordinate with principals, department leaders, teachers, and staff to identify, develop, and implement programs and projects that advance shared district and Foundation goals, for the purpose of ensuring Foundation-supported initiatives are relevant, effective, and aligned with district priorities.

  • Connect donor interests with appropriate district initiatives while ensuring gifts are consistent with donor intent, district policy, educational priorities, and equity across schools, for the purpose of creating meaningful giving opportunities while protecting the integrity and priorities of the district and Foundation.

  • Oversee Foundation-sponsored grant and program processes, communicate expectations to employees, monitor funded projects, and report outcomes and impact to donors and the Board, for the purpose of ensuring Foundation resources are used effectively, requirements are met, and results are documented and communicated.

  • Keep the Superintendent or designee apprised of Foundation activities, opportunities, risks, programs, and fundraising progress, for the purpose of maintaining alignment, transparency, and effective coordination between the Foundation and district leadership.

Events, Partnerships, and Community Engagement

  • Plan and lead fundraising events, donor-recognition activities, community campaigns, and other Foundation-sponsored initiatives, including goals, budgets, sponsorships, timelines, logistics, promotion, and follow-up, for the purpose of generating financial support, strengthening relationships, increasing community engagement, and advancing Foundation priorities.

  • Organize and engage Board members, staff, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and community partners in successful event planning and execution, for the purpose of coordinating resources and responsibilities necessary to deliver effective and well-managed Foundation events.

  • Develop partnerships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, alumni, civic groups, and community leaders, for the purpose of expanding community support, resources, expertise, and opportunities available to Provo City School District students and schools.

  • Represent the Foundation and district at school events, community meetings, business gatherings, and other public functions, for the purpose of building relationships, increasing awareness, and strengthening the Foundation's connection with schools and the broader community.

  • Participate in relevant professional conferences and learning opportunities to remain current on fundraising, philanthropy, nonprofit governance, and education-foundation practices, for the purpose of applying current knowledge, effective practices, and professional standards to Foundation operations and strategy.

Communications and Storytelling

  • Identify and share compelling stories that demonstrate student achievement, educator innovation, community partnership, and the measurable impact of donor support, for the purpose of demonstrating the value of Foundation investments and inspiring continued community and donor engagement.

  • Create donor materials, sponsorship packages, impact reports, newsletters, presentations, web and social media content, and other Foundation communications, for the purpose of informing and engaging donors, partners, employees, families, and community members about Foundation opportunities, priorities, and impact.

  • Collaborate with district communications staff and media partners to promote Foundation opportunities and accomplishments and ensure messaging is accurate, consistent, and aligned with district branding, for the purpose of maintaining coordinated, credible, and effective communication with internal and external audiences.

  • Present the Foundation's mission, priorities, accomplishments, and needs to potential donors, employees, families, community groups, and other audiences, for the purpose of increasing understanding, building support, and encouraging participation and investment in Foundation initiatives.

  • Protect student, employee, and donor privacy and comply with applicable district policies and legal requirements in all communications, for the purpose of safeguarding confidential information and maintaining legal, ethical, and organizational standards.

Financial and Organizational Management

  • Direct the day-to-day administration of the Foundation office, staff, volunteers, contractors, records, calendars, policies, and governing documents, for the purpose of ensuring efficient, organized, and accountable Foundation operations.

  • Work with district business personnel, Foundation officers, and Board committees to develop and monitor the annual budget and provide regular financial and fundraising reports, for the purpose of supporting responsible financial planning, oversight, transparency, and informed decision-making.

  • Ensure donations and expenditures are accurately documented, deposited, acknowledged, restricted, distributed, and used according to donor intent and applicable requirements, for the purpose of maintaining accurate financial records, protecting donor intent, and ensuring responsible stewardship of Foundation resources.

  • Oversee the timely distribution of Foundation funds and communicate clearly with schools and district personnel regarding awards, requirements, and available balances, for the purpose of ensuring Foundation resources are accessible, properly administered, and used as intended.

  • Support oversight of the Foundation's investment and endowment portfolio in coordination with the finance and investment committee and qualified professional advisors, for the purpose of protecting and responsibly managing long-term Foundation assets and supporting sustainable financial growth.

  • Establish and monitor annual performance measures for fundraising, donor engagement, events, programs, and operations; use results to guide long-term strategy, for the purpose of evaluating effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement, and informing future Foundation priorities and decisions.

  • Ensure Foundation activities comply with applicable laws, nonprofit and tax requirements, district policies, governing documents, internal controls, and ethical fundraising practices, for the purpose of protecting the Foundation and district and maintaining legal, financial, and ethical accountability.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee and consistent with the Foundation's mission, for the purpose of supporting emerging needs, priorities, and responsibilities necessary to advance the work of the Foundation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in nonprofit management, business, communications, marketing, public relations, education, or a related field.

  • Successful professional experience in fundraising, nonprofit leadership, community engagement, business development, public relations, event management, or a closely related area.

  • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships with donors, business leaders, volunteers, employees, and community partners.

  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, events, budgets, records, and deadlines with accuracy and sound judgment.

  • Proficiency with common office, communication, database, and donor-management technology.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends and travel among district and community locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Experience leading or supporting an education foundation or other nonprofit organization and working with a nonprofit governing board.

  • Documented success cultivating donors, securing major gifts, sponsorships, grants, planned gifts, or corporate partnerships.

  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance, charitable-giving practices, financial stewardship, endowments, and investment oversight.

  • Knowledge of Provo City School District, its schools, and the Provo community.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises Foundation staff and other personnel as assigned by the Superintendent or designee. Coordinates the work of volunteers, interns, contractors, committee members, and event personnel as appropriate.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in office and school environments, with frequent travel to district schools, community organizations, businesses, and event locations. The position requires periodic evening and weekend meetings and events. Duties may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, speaking, and computer use, as well as occasional movement of event materials. Foundation Officer


Under the direction of the Superintendent or designee and in close partnership with the Provo City School District Foundation Board, the Foundation Officer provides strategic leadership and day-to-day management for the Foundation. The Officer secures financial and in-kind support beyond regular district and school budgets; connects donor interests with district priorities and student needs; mobilizes the Board and community partners; and ensures Foundation resources are raised, managed, distributed, and communicated with integrity. The position advances opportunities, programs, and experiences that strengthen student success across Provo City School District.
